There aren’t many times that this happens in your life, but every once and awhile you find yourself with a little extra space in your house. When you have this space your mind naturally turns to what you want to do with it. There are a few things that you can keep in mind when building up your space to what you have always dreamed it would be.
The first thing that you will want to do is sit down with your spouse or significant other and determine a plan of action. The worst thing that you can do is start having designs on how to improve your extra space only to run into conflict with your spouse. So before either of you start planning things out, sit down, have a conversations and determine what you are going to do. A conversation at the beginning will set you up for future success.
Once you have come to an agreement on what you are planning to build out, the next step is to get to work. Make sure that you have a plan set before start building. You don’t want to get halfway through a project only to find out that you’ll need to be doing more work. Be sure to plan out all of the details. For example, if you are building excess closet space think of everything you’ll need. From racks for shoes, to cabinets and shelving. Don’t forget the lights too, you don’t want to need Lasik surgery to see things in the dark, so add a light switch. Likewise, you can take the same approach to other plans. If you are going to create a game room, make sure that you have a lot of outlets available for you.
You don’t always get extra space in your house, especially if you have children. So when you do get extra space, it comes at a premium. When you find yourself with something extra make sure that you take the time to clearly plan out what you want to do with it. Your new room will be worth it, but only if you take the time from the start.
